Community Economic Development
The main objective of Community Economic Development is to focus efforts towards the improvement of the economic, social and environmental well being of a community. Since all communities are unique, there is no single strategy, policy or program that is guaranteed to work. Community Futures Wild Rose, in conjunction with your local Municipality, seeks to assist you in the growth and expansion of your community through a community planning initiative.
Community Planning
- Form an Economic Development Committee
- Conduct Community Assessment & Action Planning Workshops
- Establish Accountability to Implement Action Plans
- Follow Up & Evaluate
Economic Development Committee (representation of)
- Social & service Associations (clubs, school, church, etc.)
- Businesses
- Community at Large who possess the influence &/or commitment to lead (rural & “urban”, new & long term residents)
- Council representation/delegation
Community Assessment & Action Planning Workshops
Allocate two days to meet with the community to complete the following phases:
- Community Assessment (SWOT Analysis: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats)
- Define KEY economic development strategies that can be prioritized and implemented.
Establish Accountability to Implement Plans
- Formulate a Strategic Planning document that will direct the community through the priorities as identified, with the following criteria: timeline, resources & accountability (members who serve on sub committees will be determined during 2nd phase of the Community Assessment & Action Planning Workshops)
Follow Up & Evaluate
- Economic Development Committee &/or sub committees meet monthly to continually address & evaluate the ACTION of the Strategic Plan.
